How To Patch Maps For Transparent Water

NEW: VISPATCH.ZIP has been updated (1.2). This version fixes the problem with duplicate backups being made when you use two part patches, like the ctf ones. Just click on any of the VISPATCH.ZIP links and you will download the latest version.

Since the release of BSP2PRT, anyone with a lot of spare time can take a BSP and re-VIS it to support transparent water. The problem is that it takes a very, very long time to VIS maps. Time most people don't want to spend. We took the most popular levels and did the VIS-ing for you. Wouldn't you rather spend twenty minutes downloading and installing than several weeks doing full (-level 4) VIS on all these levels? We thought so.

We've done our best to make these patches as easy as possible to install and use. Simply unzip the main patching utility (VISPATCH.ZIP) into an empty directory, along with any patch files you wish to install, available on the following page. Run the batch file INSTALL.BAT, which will detect whatever patch files you have placed in its directory. It will ask you a few simple questions about the directories in which your Quake files are located, and then it will patch your maps. The whole process takes under 10 minutes.

Before you download anything on the files page, download the utility you will need to do the patching here: VISPATCH.ZIP (if you download ID1.ZIP it also includes the VISPATCH files and you don't need to download them a second time).
